Newcastle United pre-season friendlies: Magpies to play five games, La Liga club to visit St James’ Park

Newcastle United endured an underwhelming 2023-24 campaign as they missed out on any form of European football after finishing seventh in the Premier League.

The Magpies finished bottom of their Champions League group containing Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan, while they also failed to make a deep run in the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Manager Eddie Howe will be looking for a big comeback next season as he is targeting the summer transfer window for several quality additions to the squad.

A strong showing in the Premier League pre-season fixtures will be key for building momentum ahead of the 2024-25 season starting from August 17.

Like Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle will also travel to Japan for their pre-season tour, but their first friendly is scheduled against Hull City at the MKM Stadium on July 27.

Following their arrival in Japan on Sunday, July 28, the Magpies will take on Urawa Red Diamonds at the Saitama Stadium three days later.

Last season’s J.League runners-up Yokohama F. Marinos are set to meet Eddie Howe’s side on August 3 at the National Stadium in Tokyo ahead of their return to England.

They will welcome Girona at St James’ Park on August 9, with the Tyneside outfit then playing against Stade Brestois the following day at the same venue in their final pre-season friendly.
