Newcastle United have surprised everyone with their excellent performances this season. They signed Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad for a club-record transfer fee and also added Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Matt Targett to their ranks in the summer. And the result has been there for all to see.
A record of eight victories, six draws and one defeat has seen the Magpies collect 30 points from 15 matches. They are currently third in the Premier League standings, with Manchester United four points behind them in fifth.
Eddie Howe has brought a great improvement at Newcastle since being appointed as their manager in November 2021. The Tyneside club were mired in relegation when the Englishman first arrived. However, they easily secured Premier League safety under the 45-year-old by finishing 11th in the league table.
And this season, their performances have been so good that a few are even considering them as top-four contenders. The Magpies forced Manchester City and United to share the spoils and also sealed impressive victories against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. They were on a five-game winning streak in the English top-flight when the 2022 World Cup started in Qatar last month.
Newcastle United Fixtures in December
Like several other English sides, Newcastle United also had a few players representing the club at the 2022 World Cup.
Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson were named in the England squad. Trippier has been an important member for Gareth Southgate’s side, with the 32-year-old making three appearances so far. Wilson has also managed to make two substitute appearances for the Three Lions.
Meanwhile, Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar were also one of the lucky few who managed to make it to the World Cup squads.
While few of their players will be busy in Qatar, the others will be in action on 8th December to take on Al Hilal in a club friendly. However, their Premier League season will resume on 26th December when they cross swords with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.
