Newcastle United have made huge progress since Eddie Howe was appointed as manager in November 2021. The Magpies were mired in relegation when he first arrived at the club but the English boss led them to an 11th-place finish in the Premier League table last season.
And this term, Newcastle are in a great position to finish in the top-four after enjoying an impressive form in the English top-flight. They are currently just two points off Tottenham Hotspur but five points ahead of Liverpool in the table.
Below we look at Newcastle United’s fixtures in April.
1- Manchester United – April 2 (H)
Newcastle had a brilliant chance to break their trophy drought when they made it to the Carabao Cup final. However, their dreams were shattered as they lost 2-0 to Manchester United with goals coming from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford.
Revenge will likely be on their mind when they host United at St. James’ Park early next month. But getting a good result against the Red Devils is expected to be very difficult for them.
2- West Ham – April 5 (A)
West Ham United have endured a disappointing campaign so far as they are fighting to survive in the top-flight. David Moyes has failed to deliver results at the London Stadium despite being heavily backed in the summer transfer window. However, the Hammers have still decided to stick with him, probably because no other good manager would be willing to take the job at this stage.
West Ham played out a 1-1 draw the last time they met Newcastle, and now the two teams will face each other again in April.
3- Brentford – April 8 (A)
Brentford are aiming for another strong finish in the Premier League after they secured a 13th-placed finish last season. They are currently sitting eighth in the standings and also have a good chance for European football next term.
However, the Bees suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Newcastle the last time they met in the Premier League. Thomas Frank’s side will be aiming to do better against the Tyneside club in April when they face each other at the Gtech Community Stadium.
4- Aston Villa – April 15 (A)
Unai Emery has brilliantly unlocked the potential of Aston Villa’s squad after he was appointed as manager in October last year. The Lions’ impressive run of form has seen them climb to 11th position, with the West Midlands outfit now 14 points above the relegation zone.
Newcastle registered an emphatic 4-0 win over Villa in October, but they are likely to find tough competition in the reverse fixture at Villa Park.
5- Tottenham Hotspur – April 23 (H)
Antonio Conte went berserk at his players after they conceded two late goals to suffer a disappointing 3-3 draw at Southampton. The Italian boss even called his own players ‘selfish’ in his post-match press conference.
But despite Conte’s frustrations, Spurs are still in contention to finish in the top-four. The Londoners now face a testing list of fixtures in April, including their away game at Newcastle.
6- Everton – April 27 (A)
Eddie Howe’s men edged the home encounter 1-0 against Everton in October, with Miguel Almiron scoring the decisive goal. The Magpies will travel to Merseyside in April hoping to claim a double over them.
However, the Toffees have seen good improvement under Sean Dyche and could prove to be very tough opponents at Goodison Park.
7- Southampton – April 30 (H)
Southampton are currently sitting at the foot of the Premier League table. But the Saints have claimed some very positive results recently in a big boost to their hopes of surviving in the richest league.
Newcastle must avoid complacency when they meet Southampton at the end of April, even though they have already defeated the Saints three times this season.
