Newcastle set to open talks with Callum Wilson over new deal

Newcastle United are reportedly set to open talks with Callum Wilson over a new deal this summer.

The 31-year-old joined the Magpies in 2020 from Bournemouth in a deal worth around £20 million.

Since his arrival at St James’ Park, he has made 82 senior appearances with 38 goals and 10 assists to his name.

The centre-forward was particularly impressive this season as he notched 18 goals in 31 Premier League appearances.

However, his current contract will run out in June 2024, with the Tyneside club facing the risk of losing him for free next year.

But Football Insider are reporting Newcastle are ready to discuss a new deal with Callum Wilson this summer.

The England international was one of the key members of Eddie Howe’s team in the 2022-23 campaign as they secured Champions League football for the first time in 20 years.

He was Newcastle United’s top scorer this season with an incredible 18 strikes in the English top-flight. That’s more than Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford (17) and Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli (15).

The experienced striker earned over 1800 minutes in the Premier League, averaging 2.4 shots and 0.7 key passes per game.

He will turn 32 in February next year, but he is still playing at the top of his game.

It looks to be an excellent decision that the Magpies are planning to extend his stay at St James’ Park by handing him a new contract.
