Newcastle United have reportedly sent scouts to watch RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak.
The Magpies ended their trophy drought with an excellent 2-1 success over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final in March.
Eddie Howe’s men are now chasing a top-five finish in the Premier League to secure European football for next season.
Despite a frustrating 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, Newcastle are still sitting fourth in the standings. But facing a tight battle with Manchester City, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, the Tyneside club cannot afford any more slip-ups in their remaining three fixtures.
While their primary focus is securing a Champions League finish, the English club also have an eye on Newcastle transfers in the summer.
According to the Daily Mail, they are looking at Leipzig star Sesko as a potential replacement for Isak.
The Magpies have no intention to sell Isak but some of the top European clubs are interested and a departure cannot be completely ruled out.
They are monitoring Sesko who is one of the finest European talents to emerge in recent years.
The 21-year-old joined Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of €24 million.
He has quickly established himself as an important first-team player, scoring 39 goals in 85 appearances across all competitions.
Sesko has also played a crucial role in the Red Bulls’ push for a top-four finish this campaign.
The talented striker has registered 13 goals and five assists in 31 Bundesliga matches.
However, his contract with Leipzig will not expire until 2029, which means Newcastle may have to spend a huge fee to secure a deal for him.
