Lewis Hall blames Newcastle manager for missing out on England’s World Cup squad 

Lewis Hall is seeking a move away from Newcastle United this summer. 

The 21-year-old didn’t make it into Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad and he largely blames his manager Eddie Howe for the omission, per The Sun’s Samuel Luckhurst. 

Hall was played out of position at right-back for Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, their penultimate game before Tuchel announced his squad. 

He was also substituted at half-time in April’s 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth, and was dropped to the bench in their next two matches against Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion. 

Hall feels those factors contributed to his omission from the England squad for the marquee event. 

The defender’s 2026 World Cup snub may come as a boost for Manchester United, who are looking to sign him in the summer transfer window. 

The Red Devils are bidding to reinforce their left-back position, with Luke Shaw currently their only recognised senior option. 

Tyrell Malacia is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of his contract this month, while Patrick Dorgu is expected to be utilised as a winger. 

While Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can play as a left-back, neither is a specialist in the role. 

Hall came through the Chelsea academy system and joined Newcastle in the summer of 2023, initially on loan that was later made permanent. 

He has established himself as a regular first-team starter, and made 46 appearances across all competitions last term, with a goal and two assists to his name. 

Hall is a top-class defender but a deal is unlikely to come cheaply for United, given his contract at St James’ Park doesn’t expire until 2029.
