Best Newcastle United performers in Saturday’s FA Cup win over Birmingham City

Newcastle United beat Birmingham City 3-2 on Saturday to book their place in the FA Cup fifth round.

Manager Eddie Howe made nine changes to the team that won 2-0 over Arsenal in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final.

Newcastle were expected to carry their momentum against Birmingham, but they were shocked by the hosts who took the lead within the first minute of the game.

However, they battled back to score three goals, sealing an excellent win over the League One leaders.

Below we have discussed the three best Newcastle performers in Saturday’s away victory.

Joe Willock

The 25-year-old hasn’t been a regular starter this campaign. He has made 21 Premier League appearances, but only six of them have come from the start.

However, Joe Willock made a strong case for more first-team opportunities after an excellent display against Birmingham. He was clinical with his chances, scoring in either half to lead his team to victory. The English footballer also made two key passes, won seven of his 15 duels and completed four dribbles.

William Osula

The young Dane joined the Tyneside club in the summer for a reported 15 million fee. However, he has been on the fringes of the squad this season under Howe, with the centre-forward yet to make a league start.

But Osula took his chance against Birmingham, producing a top display at St Andrew’s. The 21-year-old registered two assists in the game, while also making three key passes and winning 14 total duels.

Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson has only recently returned to the squad after battling back from a hamstring issue. The 32-year-old made his first start of the season yesterday and played a huge part in Newcastle’s victory.

Wilson scored the Magpies’ second goal and also posted excellent statistics. He was on the pitch for 55 minutes but completed 100% of his dribbles, won three of his five duels and made a clearance.
